Back in the caveman days I LIVED in prospecting mode.
My whole life revolved around it.
No joke...
I spent 90 minute a day at Barnes & Noble putting my business card in the self help section.
I'd put Post-It Notes on gas pumps and in bathroom stalls (LOL!)
If I'm being honest, I was too terrified to actually talk to anyone...
So I'd find creative ways of handing out samples while trying not to make eye contact, so I could avoid "face-to-face" prospecting.
You can guess how well that worked!
But the reason I did all that is simple...
I wanted to succeed in this business and win.
And, when I first signed up, I didn't know any other way, because that's what I'd been taught.
Now...
It didn't take me long to realize there MUST be better ways to find people than targeting complete strangers.
Such as...
Using social media and digital strategies to meaningfully connect with potential prospects.
So, all that said...
Should you cold prospect?
After all, everyone needs what you've got so you should talk to everyone, right?
Well, here's the thing...
People almost never do (or buy) what they
actually need.
Once their basic needs are met, they do and buy what they WANT.
And even if you think they
should want what you've got...
If they've got a roof over their head, clothes on their back, and food in the fridge... they don't
really need it.
So if you want them to buy...
They'll first have to develop a
desire for your product or your business, before they'll say YES.
And yeah, cold prospecting can do the job.
Plenty of people have earned obscene wealth that way, after all.
But it's the toughest way to build.
And that's a fact.
Because, let's face it...
Most people will blow you off and you're gonna have to talk to a LOT of people, get a TON of noes, and deal with an absurd amount of rejection.
So unless you really like awkward conversations or stubbornly want to become "rejection proof"...
Why put yourself through all the trouble?
